When Elmo close Elmo appear far
The army Gathers

Written while the writer was working serious hours in Times Square FURRY! follows one man in his Elmo suit while he navigates turf wars, knife wounds, the health issues of his only son, and his own lingering sanity. Armed only with his lone copies of The Art of War and Good Night Moon he gathers his army of Cookie Monsters and otherwise as he slowly expands his turf from 42nd st to 45th and beyond. Is the audience full of Elmos? Will he have to take violent action? When Elmo is close will he appear far? Will this end badly? We'll see.

Flashback Friday: SCRAMBLED FEET

Before there was Forbidden Broadway...there was Scrambled Feet.

Scrambled Feet  was an Off-Broadway musical parody of Broadway and the theater business.  Opening in June of 1979 (thanks Lortel Archive!) at the Top of the Gate on Bleecker Street, this hilarious musical revue ran for almost two years for a total of 831 performances.  It was written by John Driver and Jeffery Haddow, who also stared in the show along with Roger Neil and Evalyn Baron (and a duck named Hermione) who made up the original cast.  Baron was replaced during the run by a then unknown Faith Prince!

Unlike Forbidden Broadway, Scramble Feet wasn't parodies of then-running shows, but more general parodies of theatrical conventions like matinee ladies ("Theatre-party Ladies"), falling in love with cast mates ("Love in the Wings"), London imports ("British") and performing with animals ("Have You Ever Been On Stage?" - this is where the duck came in).  "Advice to the Producers" was the big, knock 'em dead number towards the end that really took the show to another level.

Scrambled Feet was the kind of sweet, small show that we don't really see any longer.

Soho Playhouse Will Bring Back THE DRAWER BOY

Soho Playhouse announced that it will transfer Oberon Theatre Ensemble's production of THE DRAWER BOY by Michael Healey. THE DRAWER BOY will reopen at the Vandam Street theater on April 19th.

THE DRAWER BOY looks in on the lives of two aging bachelor farmers in 1972 rural Ontario. World War II veterans and lifelong friends, the farmers share a quiet and uneventful life based on stories and routine. Their lives are comically disrupted when a young, energetic actor from the big city shows up on their doorstep wanting to live and work with them as research for a play about farming. As the actor immerses himself, the farmers' darkest secrets become part of the actor's play and the lines between theatre and life, and memory and reality, become blurred. Heartbreak and levity mix in this extraordinary play about storytelling and how it transforms our lives.
