February 2007 Preview

Here are a few shows that are begining in February that I think look interesting:

Mary Rose
– a revival of the play by J.M. Barrie; directed by Tina Landau; with Keir Dullea and Paige Howard (daughter of Ron); Vineyard Theater; Febraury 1st – April 11th;

In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel - Tennessee Williams play presented by The White Horse Theater Company at Abingdon Arts; February 2nd -18th;

(mis)Understanding Mammy: The Hattie McDaniel Story – a new play with music by Joan Ross Sorkin produced by Emerging Artists at Theater Five; February 7th – March 4th;

Journey's End - a revival of R.C. Sherriff's World War I drama comes to Broadway with the same director as the recent West End production, David Grindley; Belasco Theatre; Previews begin February 8th and opens February 22nd;

The Other Here – a new work by Big Dance Group; directed by Paul Lazar and choreographed by Annie-B Parson at The Japan Society; February 8th – 11th;

Strom Thurmond Is Not a Racist / Cleansed - Immediate Theatre Company presents a double bill of plays by Thomas Bradshaw; Brick Theater, Williamsburg; Febaruay 8th – March 3rd;

The Spanish Tragedie - The Queens Players present the not-often-revived revenge play by Thomas Kyd at both The Jackson Avenue Theatre in Long Island City and the Bridge Theater at Shetler Studios; Febrauary 8th - 25th; [adjust your volume first!]

Los Angeles - a new play by Julian Shepperd; directed by playwright Adam Rapp at The Flea; February 14th - March 17th;

Mad Forest - QED Productions present a revival of Caryl Churchill's drama directed by Julia Beardsley O'Brien; Hudson Guild Theater; Feb 15th -Mar 4th;

Our Leading Lady - a new play by Charles Busch about Laura Keene, the 19th century American stage actress, as she prepares to perform at Ford's Theatre on the fateful night when Abraham Lincoln is assassinated. Manhattan Theatre Club Stage II; February 22nd – April 21st;

Jack Goes Boating - The LAB presents a new play by Bob Glaudini starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Ortiz, Daphne Rubin-Vega at The Public Theater; February 27th - April 8th;

Hamlet – The Wooster Group's take on Hamlet as filtered through the 1964 Richard Burton production debuts at St. Ann's Warehouse; February 27th – March 25th;
