ELEKTRAFIRE : A Modern Rock Opera - 8/20/2007

Unfortunately nothing in ELEKTRAFIRE : A Modern Rock Opera is as much campy fun as it's postcard image – that is if you don't count the unintentional laughter. Doug Thoms has written some good music & lyrics, most unfortunately, though, Doug Thoms is also the director – or so it seems. There is no director actually credited in the program, and that is the biggest problem of ELEKTRAFIRE; it seriously needs the focus of a good director, as it stands now there is no point of view or tone, only the doggedly plowing through the piece to it's ridiculous interpretive dance of an ending. Beware!

Wow – I loved Elektrafire. The singers are amazing, the songs rock, and while I am not up on my Sophocles I understood the plot from the beginning and it all made sense. I had no idea what was going to happen and the all leads (Elektra, her younger sister and their nightmare mother) really captivated me. The band was great but never got in the way of the story, which ends up on a more hopeful note than I was expecting. The play really made me think. I admit to having expected a bit of camp going in but I didn’t even think about it until I read this review – I certainly didn’t miss it. Elektrafire is amazing, I’m going again later this week and bringing people with me. All respect to Ludlow Lad but I very much disagree – the only thing about this show I would beware of is missing it!

Personally, I would 'beware' of a 'journalist' who doesn't know the difference between "it's" (the contraction of "it is") and "its" (the neuter possessive article).

As in:
"It's clear the education of some isn't worth its weight in fleas."
